THE TREMONT SCHOOL SEEKS FOUNDING ACADEMIC DIRECTOR FOR AN INNOVATIVE NEW SCHOOL IN METROWEST BOSTON

Have you dreamed about starting a school that utilizes your ideas, passions and experience to create a learning environment where all students and teachers thrive?

Where, on a daily basis, students are provided with a relevant context for their lessons using a project-based, hands-on, thematic curriculum.

Where students and teachers learn together in a civic-minded community that highly values friendships and intellectual curiosity.

Where the school is devoted to attracting a wide variety of learning and personality styles

Where the outdoors is considered an extension of the classroom?

If you can answer an enthusiastic yes to these questions, we want to hear from you!

Opportunity:

The Tremont School is an exciting new independent middle school that will open its doors in September 2011 for 5th and 6th graders, adding a grade each year until reaching its full capacity as a school for grades 5 -12 in 2017. We are currently engaged in the final stages of our facilities search and will be located in the Metrowest area of Boston, most likely in or near Natick, Massachusetts.

The mission of the Tremont School is to provide an experiential education that focuses on social and emotional learning as well as academic excellence for a deliberately diverse group of students. Class size will be small and emphasis will be placed on providing students with a real context for their learning; a hands-on project-based, thematic curriculum where a community of good friends and good citizens can develop and thrive.

We are currently inviting applications for our Founding Academic Director. The position is available immediately and will work closely with the school’s President and Board of Directors on all aspects of the start-up and development of the academic program. This is a leadership position that provides outstanding personal and professional growth opportunities for the exceptional candidate.

The Founding Academic Director will have broad responsibility for shaping the overall academic experience of the students including curriculum design, implementation, assessment, the selection of materials, and the hiring, training, and evaluating of teachers and specialists. The Academic Director will participate in recruiting and interviewing prospective students and their families as part of the admission process. During the school year, The Academic Director will serve as the day-to-day director of the school and be the principal point of contact for parents and families. The Academic Director will also be responsible for training, mentoring and supervising the teaching staff and the academic support team, as well as sharing some teaching responsibilities.

As part of the school’s senior management team, this position will work in close partnership with the school’s full-time President and Board of Directors.
